The Gift of Electronic Communication as One of God’s Tools to Help Finish the Great Commission

With the advent of modern technology and its multiple avenues for communication, no other generation has had such a deluge of information available for consumption. In no other period in this world’s history has it been possible to deliver and receive communication across the globe, to and from recipients thousands of miles away, in a split-second.

One cannot refrain from marveling at the evolution of electronic communication systems since the inaugural transmission of the famous four words, “What hath God wrought?” (Numbers 23:23). Samuel Morse sent those words a distance of 40 miles over an experimental telegraph line from the United States Supreme Court chamber in the Capitol building at Washington D.C., to the B & O Railroad Depot in Baltimore, Maryland, on May 24, 1844. Fast forwarding 113 years later, in October 4, 1957, a radio transmission was sent “over” by the Soviet artificial satellite Sputnik I, also setting a significant milestone in mass wireless electronic communication.

The space on this page would fail to include elaborations on other communication systems that have revolutionized the way humans connect with each other. In the course of almost 170 years, from the very first successful wired electronic communication delivery to the most advanced wireless electronic communication delivery system, the mode of transmitting information has undergone massive changes. And still, technology continues to be developed. The astonishing way in which communication has developed in the course of a relatively short span of time (compared to the age of the planet, where communication modalities had stayed pretty much the same for almost 6,000 years), seems to allude to the fact that the end of time is here and God is wrapping things up.

Yet, statistics show that much more still has to be done to reach almost 2 billion people or 27.9% of the world’s population with the Gospel message, people who are essentially cut off from access to the Gospel. (source: www.mup.org) “Of the 16,787 total people groups, 6,947 are identified as unreached using Joshua Project criteria, totaling 2,833,526,000 individuals. Of these 6,947 groups, 5,885 are in 10/40 Window countries. That means 85% of all unreached people groups are in the 10/40 Window.” (source: www.joshuaproject.net)

Roughly two-thirds of the area within the 10/40 window is composed of territory within the continent of Asia. In this context, the time has come for an ambitious effort to reach the people of Asia with the message of Jesus Christ in their own language.

Interestingly, the Adventist movement — with the most urgent message to be given to the world — traces its roots to the very same year that electronic telegraph communications was born, the year 1844. And, whereas information delivery has achieved phenomenal improvements throughout the years since that pivotal year, the Adventist movement has concurrently had similar growth in its membership, institutions, resources, and opportunities to reach every human being with the message God desperately wants to share with them.

Other media organizations have undoubtedly paved the way for the development of opportunities (and of talent to seize such opportunities), and have provided the inspiration to “aim for the sky” when it comes to “out-of-the-box” evangelism. Notwithstanding the existence of other media organizations that have successfully penetrated the communication airwaves with the Gospel, a vacuum still exists for the delivery of ethno-sensitive media programming.

The All Asia Studio has the mission and purpose to serve that very need, by taking advantage of an unprecedented opportunity to broadcast over the ABS1 Satellite. This would mean a potential viewing audience of nearly 4 billion people or 60% of the world’s population in 48 countries (including the vast majority of the world’s unreached people groups and 3 world religions – Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism). With a dedicated purpose of reaching the 10/40 Window, this ministry is focused on harnessing the talents of God’s people, native to the 10/40 Window, in developing truth-filled media programming in their own languages, then broadcasting it via satellite.

Because 90% of the people living in the 10/40 Window are “unevangelized”, there is an urgent need to stretch out the media-evangelism footprint of God’s church. Samuel Morse, in that very first telegram message nearly 170 years ago, quoted Numbers 23:23 from the King James Version of the Bible, “What hath God wrought?” Those few words resonate a poignant, clarion “call to action” on behalf of the Great Commission for God’s people. We aim to answer this call, so that we too may marvel — having cooperated with God to reach the unreached of this planet with His Gospel, using our best gifts, invested in His kingdom — and say in our day, “See what God has done!” (Numbers 23:23 NIV)

With prayer and sacrifice, this project has launched into the deep ocean of God’s grace, to bring the message of hope to those in darkness. Your partnership in this ministry is a vital contribution to the success of what He desires to accomplish through those He came to save. Together we can help finish the task of reaching the unreached for Jesus Christ while there still is time. Why not ask God TODAY how you may participate, and see how He will do “great and mighty things”! (Jeremiah 33:3)
